European HR Director - Zurich region - from CHF 230,000 + package

We're seeking a senior level Director / HR Business Partner, to be based north of Zurich, Switzerland, with a focus on supporting business leaders who are hungry for HR support to achieve aggressive company growth targets.   The global company is a lovely size at circa 5,000 employees and is cash flow rich with solid EBIT performance.  Recent changes in the executive team are driving greater investment in R&D, and there is a further program for acquisition as well as ongoing organic growth.

This multinational employer will be seeking someone with 15+ years’ experience & well-rounded HR expertise, ideally with a history of directly supporting workforces across multiple countries within the EMEA landscape.  This person will be leading a small corporate team, and reporting into a regional Business Exec team, whilst supporting the Global CHRO.   As the regional HR Director this person will be responsible for ensuring that business priorities are achieved through the creation of innovative, commercially viable, and relevant HR strategy and frameworks.  This person will be liaising immediately with in-country HR peers who are supporting local plant operations; and working to ensure global initiatives are effective, locally tailored and compliant.  Well established CofE’s are being enhanced currently to improve the resources available to this HR leader.

Talent attraction, development and retention are all key on the leadership agenda given the company is operating in a globally competitive market.  This is also an environment where influencing through data will be welcomed, and where OD & change management experience will be utilised frequently.  A track record for coaching and mentoring others will be highly regarded, as this person will be expected to provide support the development and upskilling of current HR team capability across their own region and around the world.

The workforce spans highly technical B2B commercial sales specialists, skilled manufacturing, and globally niche R&D scientists and technicians who are operating with a particularly niche range of product lines.  I expect these workforces will provide many challenges to their new HR Director, given the level of expertise they have in their own core niches and the reactive, almost transactional support they’ve had historically from the HR function.

To date, the business growth has been sound but conservative, and our new executive team want to “kick start” that situation!  HR frameworks haven’t changed for years in some instances, so many aspects need to be revamped.  Additionally, a more aggressive approach to growth could be easily undertaken given the breadth of potential in this market, as could better operating efficiencies in order to maximise profits - this HR leader should be a key contributor in guiding the executive team in achieving these plans.

This role will pay circa CHF 230,000 base salary, plus bonus plus package plus likely LTIP and relocation support if required.   Up to 30% planned short and long haul travel can be expected.

This is a high-profile role, and success will certainly provide many ongoing development & progression opportunities within the corporation around the world.  English is the company language but additional languages will be highly regarded.  A strong track record for influencing via data, gaining credibility through measurable ROI initiatives, and having courage of conviction for organisational design and culture change projects will be essential for success in this role.

We will be particularly interested in professionals who offer tenured but clearly ambitious careers within complex matrix international employers; specifically within manufacturing environments featuring chemical sciences.  Given the executive appetite for talent initiatives, preference will be given to professionals for whom this is an "upward development" career move, rather than for "been there, done it" transferable skills.

This role is only available to EU citizens or current Swiss work permit holders.  Interested professionals can apply directly and in confidence via solutions@cartermorris.com and quoting CMTS00170.

Interviews are being conducted throughout this week and next with the intent to extend an employment offer before this year is over!
