VP level HR Executive – rapidly expanding company of just 6 years - Japan

HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADER COMMENCED AFTER SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT OFFER

This is a new role within a well-resourced company that has enjoyed significant expansion since its inception - from one person originally to many thousands in just six years of operation around the world, we now need a HR leader to own the people agenda within Japan.  This person will partner directly with a key CEO plus Country, Regional and Global teams to enable the company’s ongoing expansion.  Rapid growth is being driven by increasing market share, and diversification of product lines.

Immediate priorities for this role include setting up a HR function that is scaleable as employee numbers within the region continue to rise; to further define the organisational structure; establishing a “can do” international culture; and supporting newly hired, high performance talent to further expand the country leadership and operations teams.  Whilst you will offer many years of HR experience and people management expertise to this VP level role, you will need to hire and build your own team to support you - and whilst that hiring is happening, the responsibility will be directly on you initially to be the “subject matter expert” for payroll, employment law, compensation, benefits, training, development, and so much more! All of these competing priorities, no infrastructure or corporate rules yet in place, and a company moving at a lightning pace - wow!

This role will allow you to be creative, innovative and agile; and to apply all of your expertise in people management and development.  You’ll have direct ownership for building process and frameworks that enable employees and leadership teams to be successful in achieving exceptional business results - a great chance to design, experiment and put into practice all the ideas you’ve believed are essential, rather than being burdened with traditional corporate HR policy and process.  The global CEO and CHRO have a constant curiosity for “why do we have to do it that old fashioned way, why can’t we try this” - which is a dream for the HR leader who truly believes in slashing bureaucracy and being a true business partner rather than the HR “policy police”.

A work history as an HR leader within a large global corporation would be useful to have learnt what great HR looks like and ideally, you’ll also understand the pressures of a rapidly expanding start up organisation.   You will be keen to try new and creative approaches to HR management, and will be used to working within ambiguity and high pace! Within this company, you will be part of an international team of HR professionals, with frequent opportunities to share best practice and learn from others’ experiences. There are genuine prospects within this company to further develop the scope of this role within the region, or to take on even larger challenges elsewhere in the world.

The role is available to Japanese citizens and/or current Japanese work visa holders and/or professionals with extensive local markets expertise and business fluent Japanese (verbal & written). It will be based in Tokyo, with a base salary from JPY 20,000,000 (and flex to increase depending on experience) plus a very competitive executive package.  Relocation support is available as required.  You will need to attend meetings in the USA from time to time and potentially other locations globally so a current passport will be essential!

Many job boards “scrape” websites to find old and completed job ads, and re-post them without permission as “new” ads to increase job seeker and potential advertiser appeal for their own site. If you have been directed here as a result of a job board posting false ads – this role has already been hired for!
