European Employee Relations Leader - flex base location, hefty bonus potential

ROLE FILLED - HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADER COMMENCED AFTER SUCCESSFUL WORK CONTRACT OFFER

This role is with another of our all-time favourite organisations, who are upgrading their employee relations capability yet again to continue building on their reputation as an employer of choice. To this end, we are seeking an ambitious, qualified Employee Relations Leader for this high-profile post.

As the most senior ER team member within Europe, this person will be relied upon for mentoring, guiding and inspiring less experienced colleagues. This person will own the European Works Council relationship, whilst operating as the employment law subject matter expert for multiple European countries, and managing all ER matters for regional corporate functions.

This company has worked hard to reduce their day to day ER liabilities, and as such, this person can expect to be working more pro-actively on strategic interventions to predict and prevent issues, rather than simply spending time wading through disputes and “cleaning up” ER mess!

The role reports into a well respected Global ER executive, who has a track record of allowing regional leaders high levels of support and autonomy for decision making. Daily interaction can be expected with regional Business and HR leaders who will appreciate a a holistic view of solutions to apply across Employee Relations, Diversity & Inclusion, Policy & Procedure plus Performance Management and Employee Engagement.  Proactive advice for a variety of change management programs, resolution of complex employee issues, employer brand protection and risk management advice for new markets opening & closing, are just some of the many responsibilities in this role.

This ER leader should expect a lot of change, challenges and ambiguity as a result of various organisational design programs rolling through the company globally. There is no shortage of projects and responsibilities in this role, with many opportunities to work with peers in other regions when leading on, and contributing to international projects.

The “wish list” for hiring criteria is very reasonable, inclusive of:

  • Fluent English written and verbal language skills. Any additional European languages would be useful but are not essential.

  • An advanced working knowledge of EWC frameworks and ideally direct exposure to EWC negotiations.

  • A history of working as a specialist employment law expert across various European jurisdictions. Formal legal qualifications would be well regarded.

  • A track record for successfully working through the complex matrix and reporting structures of a multinational company (apologies but career contractors cannot be considered for this hire at this time)

  • Ability to adjust your communication and presentation style to an array of stakeholders through to executive levels

  • Advanced commercial savvy with an ability to find solutions that match business needs with employment law compliance across a variety of jurisdictions

  • Courage to influence and stand your ground whilst demonstrating a high degree of emotional intelligence

The role will require current EU or UK citizenship. When Covid restrictions are relaxed, regular travel can be expected across the region and occasionally to other continents.  There is flexibility on where this role can be based but it must be within mainland Europe, UK or Ireland with easy access to the company’s key sites. The base salary will be accompanied by generous benefits and a particularly high bonus potential.

Finally, this employer offers genuine career development prospects for their high performance staff, especially for those who are globally mobile.
