Labor Relations Leader - North America, flex location
ROLE FILLED - HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADER COMMENCED AFTER SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT OFFER
This newly upgraded role is part of a global upgrade of capabilities across the well-established ER Centre of Excellence within this company known for investing in the wellbeing of its employees.
We are seeking an ambitious, commercially-minded Labor Relations expert - ideally someone with multi state employment legislation knowledge across the USA, and a working knowledge of collective bargaining within Canada. Ideally, this person will have a track record for directly managing union negotiations as a sparring partner rather than a “take no prisoners” adversary!
This person will support business and HR leaders at key sites, as the subject matter expert for Employment Law, Policy & Procedure and Employee Engagement. Complex case management, risk management advice for operational change programs, resolution of employee and group grievances, minimisation of employer brand risk, agreement negotiations with unions, are just some of the many responsibilities in this role.
This company has worked hard to reduce ER liabilities, but still strives to improve further as an employer of choice. So this person will be expected to work pro-actively on strategic interventions to predict and prevent issues, rather than simply spending time wading through disputes and “cleaning up” labor relations mess after the fact!
Reporting into a Global ER executive, this Labor Relations specialist will have high levels of autonomy, but will also be relied upon as a subject matter expert to advise peers across North America and around the world to ensure a consistent level of service delivery. This person should also expect a lot of change, challenges and ambiguity as a result of various organisational design programs rolling through the company globally; but this also offers opportunities to capitalise on having input in further refinements for the ER function, creating policy and identifying solutions, and making key contributions to global projects!
The role requires fluent written and spoken English. Other critical hiring criteria includes:
A stable career history working for mid-large sized companies (apologies but career contractors cannot be considered for this hire)
A track record of successfully navigating through complex matrix organisational structures
An analytical mind-set with data savvy, and the ability to influence through facts rather than simply emotions
Fine attention to detail in the creation of processes, programmes and reporting tools to track, assess and manage Labor Relations issues
Ability to adjust communications and presentations to an array of stakeholders
Gravitas, with the courage to influence and stand your ground whilst demonstrating a high degree of emotional intelligence
Post Covid restrictions, planned and regular travel can be expected across the region. The base salary of circa $140,000 will be accompanied by a particularly generous performance bonus and other benefits.
There are genuine career development prospects with this employer, particularly if you are open to broadening your career into other HR functional roles, and/or able to consider future relocations around the world.
If this sounds like the challenge you've been seeking for your next career move, please do make contact directly and in confidence via solutions@cartermorris.com quoting CMTS00264. Interviews are being scheduled currently, with a view to an employment offer being extended in the coming weeks.
