Regional Employee / Labor Relations Leader - South East Asia flex

ROLE FILLED - HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADER COMMENCED AFTER SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT OFFER

We are seeking an ambitious, commercially-minded Employee Relations Leader for this high-profile career role within a reputable, global company.  We are also open to chatting with HR Generalists/HRBP’s who have extensive experience with ER management and a passion to specialise as ER experts; and to legal practitioners who have experience of working in-house as ER advisors to support HR functions.

This person will own the strategic Employee Relations agenda across key countries within the Middle East and Asia; mentoring and coaching the onsite labor relations specialists who are managing the day-to-day demands arising from large numbers of manufacturing site staff.

In addition to guiding the local teams, this role will support site General Managers, Regional business executives, and HR leaders with complex case management escalations, proactive advice for change management programs, resolution of any recurring employee issues, minimisation of brand risk, complex negotiations with staff councils/unions, and risk advice on sites opening & closing.

This company has worked hard to reduce its ER liabilities, and as such, this person can expect to be working more pro-actively on strategic interventions to predict and prevent issues, rather than simply spending time wading through disputes and “cleaning up” ER mess! As the most senior team member within the region for ER expertise, this person will be sought out for pro-active risk management counsel, and “big picture” views on topics within Employee Relations, Diversity, Policy & Procedure and Employee Engagement.  This person will also work closely with the company’s Global VP of ER, and as such will be relied upon for input into broader global projects. To help in managing the broad-ranging scope of this role, this person will be able to leverage and interact with accomplished peers working across other regions throughout the world - there is no shortage of resources available to enable success!

Fluent English plus at least 1 other Asian language or Arabic would be useful in this role, as will be an advanced working knowledge of employment laws spanning ideally multiple countries across Asia. Other critical hiring criteria includes:

  •  A stable career history working for large-sized international corporations (apologies but career contractors cannot be considered for this hire)

  • A track record of successfully navigating through complex matrix and reporting structures

  • An analytical mind-set with data savvy; able to influence through facts rather than simply emotions

  • Fine attention to detail in the creation of processes, programmes and reporting tools to track, assess and review ER issues

  • Ability to adjust your communications and presentations style to an array of stakeholders

  • Advanced commercial savvy with an ability to interpret employment laws across a variety of jurisdictions

  • You’ll need gravitas, with the courage to influence and stand your ground whilst demonstrating a high degree of emotional intelligence

  • You will be known as a thought leader - able to challenge the status quo and innovate new process and solutions to achieve market leading results

There are fantastic career development prospects with this employer, particularly if you are globally mobile.

Regular travel can be expected across the region and occasionally to the US.  Based ideally from the Philippines, or Malaysia, the base salary will be accompanied by a hefty performance bonus and other benefits. Relocation support is also on offer, although expat packages are not - this role will be rewarded with a salary and and package in line with domestic costs of living to the base location.
